The perpetrator Anders Behring Breivik was captured by the police at Utøya after heavy shooting. Breivik is 32 years old and has been member of the Progress party (FRP) and its youth wing but left about 10 years ago and today he is described by the police as a Christian fundamentalist and a right wing extremist. He operated the company "Breivik Geofarm" but this could have been used as a cover for obtaining a huge amount of artificial fertilizer which he stored in his garage at a small farm at Rena 140 kilometer north of Oslo. Breivik purchased 6 tonns of fertilizer in May. The so called fertilizer bomb ANFO (ammonium nitrate fuel oil) was previously used in many terrorist actions world wide. IRA, ETA and others have committed blasts by the use of this explosive.

Today many Norwegians including many municipalities, the government and the King himself are involved in supporting the families affected by this tragedy. The youths came from places all over Norway so this unreal situation is a challenge for the whole nation. Many people are injured and now at hospitals within and around Oslo city.

World leaders and Norway¨s neighbour countires have expressed symphaty and offered support.

The leader of the Labour Party youths organisation AUF expressed that the best way of honouring the victims is to fight for the Norwegian democracy and to continue to be tolerant, open minded anti racists and politically active.
